Our Mission

We believe in treating each child with personalized care and attention, according to their unique needs and personality. We always take the time to get to know the children entrusted to our care and provide parents with progress reports at the end of each day. Our goal is to assist parents in helping each child achieve his or her full potential. Our team strives to make every individual child feel excepted, loved, nurtured, and safe no matter disability, culture, and/or background. We aim to meet every child’s developmental needs and domains by following the developmental domains (which include social, emotional, language, intellectual, physical, and creative development).

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy at Elmwood Daycare and Out of School Care is to provide an environment where children can learn through play and exploration. An establishment where the children feel safe and are encouraged to try new tasks, while enhancing their abilities. Our team promotes children’s abilities to resolve conflicts, understand mutual respect, gain independence and build self-esteem. These abilities are also encouraged by teachers modeling and encouraging socially acceptable behaviour where children are encouraged to selfregulate and develop positive relationships. The children’s environment consists of routines and transitions in order to provide consistency and security; flexibility that facilitates decision-making and free choice is incorporated in the program on a daily basis. We foster independence and decision-making skills as the children are viewed as competent and capable members of society. We take great pride in our facility, our group of educators, and we all strongly strive to be welcoming and understanding to all children and families requiring our care. We strive to provide quality care for all children, regardless of race, ethnicity, financial situations, gender and family structure. All children are entitled to the same level of service, care and hours of operation. Educators base their program planning around the children’s interests, as we believe children learn and retain more information when interested and fully engaged in activities and games. The five developmental domains are a key component to our facilities program. The children will learn physical development through everyday outdoor play (weather permitting) and indoor group games. Social development takes part in everyday interactions with classmates, educators and visitors. Educators challenge the children’s intellectual development through exploration of play centres, tabletop activities and experiments. The children enhance their creative development through open-ended art allowing the children to express themselves.

Our founder

Elmwood Daycare and Out of School is a “fuly accredited” childcare facility located in West Edmonton and embedded in the beautiful neighbourhood of Elmwood. There is plenty of parking in this quiet and newley renovated strip mall and easy access from the Whitemud, 87th Ave and 170th Street.
Our facility and standard of care was created by Nanveet Kaur, a lifelong child educator and highly educated professional. With a Bachelor of Education, a Bachelor of Arts, the Childcare Development Supervisor Certification from the Province of Alberta, an Accredited Supported Childcare Assistant and Emergency Child Care First Aid from the Red Cross, Nanveet understands and fully subscribes to childcare best practices. Nanveet combines her education and experience with the motherly instinct from raising her own children, enabling her to visualize and create an environment that children will thrive and grow in.
Not all daycares are created equal and Naveet has created a facility that is absolutely exceptional, a childcare experience that is of the highest quality and with the consistency and care that removes any worry. Every detail is meant to stimulate the senses of the young developing mind and create a an experience that children enjoy.

The 7 Pillars of Early Childhood Development

Every parent strives to raise a healthy, compassionate child who has high self-esteem and respect for others. We all go to great lengths to make sure their physical and emotional needs are met and that they are learning and developing the way they should be. As parents, we are our children’s first teachers so it’s important to know how to positively foster a child’s early learning and what we can do to help that along every step of the way.Knowing the seven domains of childhood development can help parents and caregivers do just that. Think of these as seven slices- they all come together to make a complete pie. Keep these in mind for your own children, whether they’re at home, in daycare, or in a pre-school program. Let’s take a look…
